As the Kalahari Reds area new breed rams are not high in demand. We need to increase the ewes to create a market for top breeding rams.
I select 4 rams every year and raise them intensively for breeding purposes. The rest are raised to 6 months and then sent to Ben Vorster in Tshipese where they grow up on natural Mopanie veld for sale to the slaughter market.
Rams are weaned at 3months and then weighed and their weights send to the ARC for the calculations of their weaning indexes. These indexes are used in selection process. Their data is also used to calculate their mothers EBR.
Herewith some young rams bred at Ilnika Kalahari Reds.
